The Stinky & Dirty Show: A New Great Animation Series To Watch With Your Kids!

I was given the opportunity to screen, the brand-new Amazon Original Kids Series, The Stinky & Dirty Show. The series premiered on Friday, September 2 on Amazon Prime Video in the US and UK, and in Germany, Austria and Japan later this year. The show is based on the “I Stink!” book series by Kate and Jim McMullan. The Stinky & Dirty Show was created for preschoolers. Each episode takes you on adventures with two heart-warming, often hilarious, heroic best friends; Stinky the garbage truck and Dirty the backhoe loader. The dynamic duo work together as a team to solve challenges that arise in their town.
The series, written and developed by Guy Toubes (The Adventures of Chuck & Friends, Littlest Pet Shop, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi) and animated by Brown Bag Films, Ltd (Peter Rabbit, Octonauts, Doc McStuffins).
The Stinky & Dirty Show features original music from acclaimed folk singer and songwriter Dan Bern and celebrity voice talent, including Whoopi Goldberg (The View), Jane Lynch (Glee), Andy Richter (Arrested Development), Joan Cusack (Shameless) and Wallace Shawn (Toy Story).
The newest original preschool series to foster lifelong creative learning, the series’ curriculum was developed by Dr. Alice Wilder and Jessica Lahey, author of the New York Times best-seller The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed, on which the curriculum is based.
The TV show and book series go hand in hand, complimenting each other well by holding true to the books characters and creative illustration style.
The show focuses on teaching children resourcefulness, critical thinking, and to never give up when the going gets tough.
Stinky & Dirty are different in many aspects, but the differences are what make great problem solvers. Both characters have a different set of characteristics to bring to the table when problems arise, by combining skills and working together as a team, makes all the difference in resolution. Neither character dwells on the other's differences, but instead embraces and appreciates their differences.
Lesson Learned From Stinky
Stinky teaches children that slowing down, thinking first, then taking action help you come to a better solution.
Lesson Learned From Dirty
Dirty teaches children to take a level-headed approach to problem solving.
Stinky & Dirty's take what they've learned from prior attempts and sub-sequentially solve the problem at hand.
My three-year-old son has taken a liking to this show. What I particularly love about this show is the "view & do" that Stinky & Dirty offer at the end of each episode inviting children to take skills they learned during the episode and encouraging them to create their own real-world problem solving techniques.
The show teaches little ones how things work like wheels needing to be round in order to roll. This is called foundation learning which relates to character tasks (building a ramp with a slanted board, moving heavy objects by placing wheels on them.)
In all, The Stinky & Dirty show is an awesome children's show, teaching them positive themes like friendship, teamwork, motivation, positive attitudes, determination, trial & error, patience, perseverance, being resourceful means taking on challenges and being able to see beyond everyday solutions, self-reliance, and learning from mistakes along the way.
My son and I enjoyed the TV show so much, I ordered The Stinky & Dirty book series on Amazon to add to our growing book collection. The Dirty & Stinky Show is a great way to spark up educational conversations with your child. Asking your child questions, helps inspire creativity. As parents it's important that we get our children used to being asked to find solutions for themselves, because the more resourceful they are, the more resourceful they become.

Look for opportunities in episodes to connect the principles of problem solving in a variety of real-world experiences. This helps the connection of resourcefulness to all aspects of your child's life.
