Easy D.I.Y Monster Heads

Halloween decorations seem to be rising in price with each year that goes by. So why not save some money and create your own awesome Halloween decor? There are many simple D.I.Y Halloween decorations that are fun and easy to make at home with very little effort. All you need are a few simple craft supplies that can bought from you local craft or hobby stores. Halloween decorations are great because they add to the joy of this fun holiday.

These Styrofoam heads are great because they're ready to paint. There's no prep and better yet, you don't have to be an artist to make these monster heads look great. Since they're already sculpted, all you have to do is follow the sculpted lines to paint each section.

Not only can these monster head be used as decor, they could easily be incorporated into a Halloween costume!

In order to recreate these scary monster heads, you'll need a few cheap crafts supplies that you may already have at home.

Supplies I Used:

Styrofoam Monster Heads

Acrylic Paint

Paint Brushes

3-D Red Puffy Paint

Modge Podge Puzzle Sealer (If you plan on using them outdoors)

*It took me approximately two hours per monster head to complete.

Make It Fun: Styrofoam vampire and zombie heads-7.4"x6.1"

Walmart: $4.57

I found these Styrofoam heads at my local Walmart. They also had an awesome witch head, but unfortunately—someone broke her nose off. So I looked on Walmart.com to see if any of the monster heads were available online and not only do they have the vampire and zombie heads, they also have the witch head and a gargoyle head as well! Acrylic Paint & Paint Brushes

I used Apple Barrel matte acrylic paint. They come in 2 fl oz bottles for $0.50 at Walmart. They also com in 8 and 16 oz bottles as well. You should be able to find this brand at any craft or hobby store—though any acrylic paint should work just as well. You can also go with a gloss acrylic paint instead of matte, it just depends on the look that you prefer.

For the paint brushes, I just bought a pack of cheap brushes for a dollar.

3-D Red Puffy Paint by Tulip

I wanted to give the blood a 3-D effect, so I used 3-D Puffy Paint by Tulip. It's non-toxic, easy to use and doesn't create a mess. I also found this at Walmart which was $2.97 for a 1 oz bottle.

If you choose to use 3-D Puffy Paint make sure that you allow for at least four full hours to dry completely. Don't rush it by touching it to determine if it's dry before the four hour mark. It may feel dry to the touch, but the inner-most part won't be dry. You'll end up with a smeared mess!

Tip: Instead of buying a bunch of different paint colors, remember that you can mix colors to make even more colors. You could even buy glow-in-the-dark paint to add even more scary effects!
