Choosing the best kids’ books is a little like choosing your favorite ice cream flavor. It’s hard to go wrong! I somehow managed to narrow down my huge list to just 7 must-read books for children, mostly in the older kid range. Check them out below!

And… A little bonus: You can read all of these on Epic!, an awesome reading app for kids 12 and under. Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary

I’ve loved this book since I was in elementary school X number of years ago. It’s still a classic! Ramona has always been and continues to be one of my heroes!

A tearjerker, but a beautiful and award-winning story about friendship and a magical place called Terabithia.

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

My kids are obsessed with this book -- Ivan is a Silverback gorilla who lives in a cage at a mall. He sees the world through new eyes when he meets Ruby, a baby elephant.

Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

For anyone who has loved a pet, you will love this extraordinary book about a girl and her best friend, Winn-Dixie.

One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia

It’s the summer of 1968, and Delphine and her young sisters travel from Brooklyn to Oakland, CA. An inspiring story for every girl coming into her own.
